praskash singh badalPunjab government on Wednesday stressed on the need to strengthen cooperative labour federations and construction societies, saying government work should be judiciously allocated to them so that small and marginal ones could be reap benefit.

Presiding over a meeting of the board constituted for dealing with the problems faced by the Cooperative Labourfed and construction societies here, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal underlined the need for extending the benefit of these societies to the underprivileged and downtrodden sections of the society.

He said main motive of these societies was to benefit this stratum of the society, which was unable to compete with the big companies involved in the construction activities.

Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to ensure the overall welfare of the labour class, he said the Cooperative sector could play a vital role in this noble cause.

Keeping in view the escalation in the cost of labour and material, the chief minister also gave nod to enhance the limit of skilled work for these societies from existing Rs. 30 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh.
