Awasthi-Roy do plain-speak at media-meet

The duo MD Dr U S Awasthi and Marketing Director A K Roy did some plain-speak at media launch of IFFCO-MC products at IFFCO Sadan in Delhi on Wednesday on the question of organic farming vs modern techniques.

To a question on futility of producing insecticide at a time when the whole world is gravitating towards organic farming, Mr Roy minced no words. “organic farming in the context of India is a myth at best. For a country of 1.25 billion it is a luxury, he underlined IFFCO’s encouragement and efforts in the field of bio-fertilzers, nevertheless.

Joining up with Mr Roy, MD Awasthi said the main culprit in this sector is low price of urea as farmers seek it as answers to their all crop-related issues. Experts do not run governments which think availability of urea would solve everything.

“Neither the organic farming nor the complete surrender to modern ways is a solution; as in case of the latter we would have repeat experience of white flies destroying the field as happened in case of Punjab where it has been proved that white flies were successful in excessive urea-use areas”, Awasthi said.

“Pure traditional farming is also not advisable and what we at IFFCO have been striving for all these years is mix of both the -traditions and the modern. A balanced fertilization is our motto”, MD underlined.

A K Roy also informed the media that it is a trial run with launch of 18 generic products. By the next kharif season we would be manufacturing all products which would be available across India from Kerala to Kashmir. He also promised to come up with products aimed at horticulture.

MD expressed confidence that in a span of 3-4 years IFFCO-MC would control market. ” We know we are up against competition but it is a fight between fake and real and we are willing to take on the former for the sake of our farmers, he added.
