IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi met International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) outgoing President Monique F Leroux on the sidelines of Global Conference and General Assembly of ICA in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia on Thursday.
Awasthi discussed various issues related to Sustainable Development Goals and the role of cooperatives in the growth worldwide. The ICA President presented him a book on Canada and cooperatives.
Besides the formalities, what transpired between the two leaders was not clear. IFFCO’s Aditya Yadav is in fray for the global board of ICA and Awasthi’s presence in the Global Conference is attributable to this, said some of the cooperators from India.
On twitter, however Dr U S Awasthi wrote “Today met @MoniqueFLeroux, the president of @icacoop and discussed various issues related to #SDGs #rural economy and role of #cooperatives in growth of farmers and agriculture worldwide. Shared thoughts & services of #IFFCO for the same. Received a book on #Canada & #coops.”, he wrote.
Awasthi is also believed to have explained how IFFCO is providing services to farmers and helping them to achieve sustainable solutions at the village level. The IFFCO MD also underscored the relevance of the cooperative model in solving basic problems of the economy in the countryside.
