Amid a fierce scramble for seats in the forthcoming assembly elections, co-operative leader Ajay Patel who chairs both Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank has emerged a serious contender for the Dariapur seat.
According to BJP sources, the party is also considering him for the Natanpura seat, reports Ahmedabad Mirror. A source is quoted claiming Ajay Patel is Amit Shah’s sidekick.
Patel is supposed to have played an important role in ensuring BJP’s control over the cooperative sector in Gujarat. However, what with his involvement in Sohrabuddin encounter and illegal transactions in ADC Bank post-demonetization, he has had a controversial career.
Sources say if Aay Patel is offered the Dariapur, seat, several local BJP heavyweights may feel disaffected.
