Amin hoists Co-op Flag in Gandhinagar

The 63rd All India Cooperative Week was recently inaugurated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat under the aegis of Gujarat state Cooperative Union and Gandhinagar District Cooperative Union.

Addressing cooperators on the occasion, Ghanshyambhai Amin said cooperatives are the foundation of growth, progress and development as well as a proven instrument of economic earnings, especially for the small and middle classes all over the world.

During the global recession, when multinationals and big corporate companies were in the red, cooperative institutions were in the pink making profit, as revealed in a survey carried out for cooperatives of the country, Amin said

Keeping the importance of the cooperative sector in view, UN had declared the year 2012 as an International Cooperative Year, he underlined.

Talking about Gujarat, Amin said there are more than 74000 cooperative societies in Gujarat having membership strength of more than 1.50 Crore.

Vadibhai Patel, former cooperation minister of Gujarat as the chief guest said the fruits of development have percolated down to the grass roots level through cooperatives.

Several dignitaries including cooperators and cooperative officials were present on the occasion. Shitalbhai Bhatt, Executive Officer, Gujarat State Cooperative Union proposed a vote of thanks.
