Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is contesting the Malegaon Cooperative Sugar Mill elections in Baramati, four decades after his last sugar mill poll in 1984.
His Nilkantheshwar Panel, currently in power, faces a triangular contest against Chandrarao Tawre’s Sahakar Bachav Panel and Sharad Pawar-led NCP(SP)’s Baliraja Sahakar Bachav Panel.
Of 593 nominations, 90 candidates remain in the fray. Pawar, contesting from Group B, aims to counter opposition allegations and reinforce transparency.
Elections are set for June 22, with results the following day. Voters include 19,549 farmers and 102 cooperative members.
