The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is scaling up the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, precision farming and climate-smart practices to boost farm productivity and incomes.
AI tools like the voice-based chatbot Kisan e-Mitra are assisting farmers in 11 regional languages, while the National Pest Surveillance System uses AI to detect pest attacks across dozens of crops. AI-enabled local monsoon forecasts helped many farmers adjust sowing decisions during Kharif 2025.
Drone adoption is expanding through subsidies, custom hiring centres and the Namo Drone Didi scheme for women SHGs. ICAR institutions have also conducted large-scale drone demonstrations across farmers’ fields nationwide.This information was given by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
