In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Raman Kumar, IAS (Bihar cadre, 2009 batch), as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation.

He will assume charge from the date of taking over the post and will serve for a tenure of five years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

He succeeds Pankaj Kumar Bansal, IAS (Tamil Nadu cadre, 1997 batch), in this role.

Raman Kumar brings a wealth of administrative experience to his new position. He has held several key roles in both the state and central governments.

At the state level, he served as District Magistrate of East Champaran and Buxar in Bihar, where he was instrumental in implementing development initiatives and strengthening governance structures.

At the central level, Kumar has served as Private Secretary to Union Minister Giriraj Singh across multiple ministries, including Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Textiles.

The Ministry of Cooperation, established to strengthen the cooperative movement in India, is currently focusing on regulatory reforms and capacity building within the sector.

Kumar’s extensive experience in rural administration and policy implementation is expected to bring renewed momentum to the Ministry’s initiatives, particularly in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of cooperative societies across the country.
