The Union Government has digitised over 79,600 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), covering nearly 75 per cent of all functional PACS in the country, under a nationwide computerisation drive, Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Implemented with a total outlay of Rs 2,925.39 crore, the project aims to enhance efficiency, transparency and governance in PACS operations by enabling faster loan disbursal, seamless accounting and reduced transaction costs. All digitised PACS are being brought onto a common ERP-based national software, linked with NABARD through State and District Central Cooperative Banks.

So far, 61,478 PACS have been onboarded, while digitisation of 18,152 PACS is underway. Shah said 59,030 PACS officials have already been trained, supported by refresher programmes, two-week handholding initiatives and 306 support centres across States and UTs.

Under the project, hardware worth Rs 1.22 lakh per PACS has been provided, with infrastructure delivered to 65,153 PACS. The government views the initiative as a cornerstone reform to modernise grassroots credit delivery and strengthen cooperative banking nationwide.
