There are 267 cooperative societies operating in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, with 51 new societies registered since January 2021, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed Parliament.

Replying to a query in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Shah said the data is based on the National Cooperative Database as of January 20, 2026.

He also noted that the National Cooperative Development Corporation has cumulatively disbursed Rs 5,16,122.32 crore for cooperative development across the country, including Rs 7,749.08 crore in Uttar Pradesh. In the last five years alone, Rs 934.62 crore has been disbursed in the state for activities such as marketing, storage, fisheries, farmer producer organisations and integrated cooperative development projects.

Highlighting steps taken since the creation of the Ministry of Cooperation in July 2021, Shah said several initiatives have been launched to realise the vision of “Sahakar-se-Samriddhi.”

These include Rs 2,925.39 crore for computerisation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), expansion of cooperative activities through model bye-laws, White Revolution 2.0, cooperative training programmes, and the establishment of Tribhuvan Sahkari University to strengthen the cooperative sector and generate rural employment.
