Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that the three newly established national-level cooperative societies, National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), and Bharatiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Limited (BBSSL), are working towards becoming premium institutions in their respective sectors over the next 10 years.
“So far, 10,277 co-op societies have joined NCEL, 7,299 have become members of NCOL, and 25,121 societies are part of BBSSL, reflecting a rapidly growing cooperative participation across the country”, he added.
Leveraging the strength of India’s cooperative network, they aim to maximize benefits to farmers. In 2024–25, NCEL reported a turnover of Rs 4,283 crore with a profit of Rs 122 crore, NCOL achieved Rs 10.26 crore turnover with a profit of Rs 36.12 lakh, while BBSSL recorded a turnover of Rs 55.25 crore and a profit of Rs 28 lakh.
With Union Cabinet approval, the Ministry of Cooperation established these societies under the MSCS Act, 2002. Their focus areas are distinct yet interconnected: NCEL is strengthening the cooperative export ecosystem, NCOL is consolidating its “Bharat Organics” brand across markets, and BBSSL is scaling seed production capacity to serve over a million farmers.
Together, these institutions are implementing strategies such as expanding membership of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS), building branding and market linkages, conducting awareness campaigns, and forming strategic collaborations.
