Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha that Uttar Pradesh has a robust cooperative network with 40,665 registered cooperative societies, of which 22,731 are functional, as per the National Cooperative Database. Agriculture & allied, dairy, fisheries, handloom, housing, PACS and credit societies form the major segments.
Shah highlighted that the PACS Computerization Project is being implemented nationwide, including in Uttar Pradesh, bringing digital accounting, standardized software, and online service delivery to thousands of primary societies. UP has received Rs 67.10 crore under the project so far.
The Minister further stated that the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has disbursed Rs 4,67,455.66 crore across India for cooperative development, of which Rs 7,646.11 crore has been allocated to Uttar Pradesh alone. Moradabad district benefitted through the Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP), receiving financial assistance of Rs 1,080.07 lakh.
Shah said the Government is committed to strengthening cooperatives through reforms such as Model PACS Byelaws, capacity-building programs, three-tier credit structure strengthening, and the World’s Largest Decentralized Grain Storage Plan, ensuring that cooperatives in Uttar Pradesh become engines of rural prosperity.
