150 co-op weavers arrested in Puducherry

Despite modernization, handloom industry in the country is not out of the woods. One of the major problems facing the industry is the shortage of raw materials.

Nearly 150 Cooperative Handloom weavers were arrested in Puducherry when they held a protest voicing their demands, reports UNI.

Their demands, among other things, were the uninterrupted supply of raw materials and the procurement of clothes for free distribution from the Pontex.

Sources say, the cooperative department has lately become quite blase about their demands.
