13 crore farmers linked with PACS so far: Amit Shah

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that presently, around 13 crore farmers are linked with PACS across the country. PACS serve as a crucial link in sustaining the rural economy of the country, providing short-term and medium-term credit and other input facilities such as fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, etc. to farmers.

“In order to strengthen PACS, project for Computerization of 63,000 functional PACS with a total financial outlay of Rs 2,516 Crore has also been approved by the Government of India, which entails bringing all the functional PACS onto an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) based common national software, linking them with NABARD through State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and DCCBs”, he added.

Shah further informed, “Computerization of PACS will help in improving the operational Efficiency of PACS, ensuring speedy disbursal of loans, lowering of transaction costs and increasing transparency. Proposals to computerize 62,318 PACS across 28 States/ UTs have been sanctioned.Software has been developed by NABARD and ERP trial run has started in 5,673 PACS in the country. Hardware procurement and digitization of legacy data by the States and Union Territories are under process”.
