Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha that a total of 11,034 cooperatives have been granted membership of the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) so far.
According to information shared by NCEL, these include 10,793 PACS and other primary cooperatives (Class-5), 216 tehsil/district-level cooperatives (Class-4), 10 multi-state cooperative societies (Class-3), 10 state-level cooperative societies (Class-2), and 5 promoter cooperatives or organizations (Class-1).
The minister also highlighted that NCEL has made significant strides in the export of agricultural commodities. The total volume of agri exports facilitated through NCEL stands at 13,49,831.05 metric tonnes, with an overall export value of Rs 5,403.01 crore.
To further boost cooperative-led exports, the Ministry of Cooperation is collaborating with Indian Missions abroad, requesting them to share market availability information with NCEL and introduce it to potential importers in their respective countries.
Amit Shah further mentioned that the Ministry of Cooperation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MoSMED) of the Republic of Zambia, aimed at facilitating trade alliances and promoting cooperative development between the two nations.
In addition, NCEL has entered into MoUs with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Government of Senegal, as well as Sinton Vantage Trading Pvt. Ltd. and PT Sinton Surini Nusantara of the Republic of Indonesia. These partnerships are expected to open new avenues for Indian cooperatives in international markets and support the vision of ‘Sahakar se Samriddhi’.
