WOCCU: Branch asks credit co-ops to adopt international practices

World Credit Cooperative Union (WOCCU) President Mr. Brain Lee Branch urged that credit co-operatives should adopt international standards in its operations. He laid especial emphasis on the digitization in Credit Cooperatives.

Branch said so while interacting with the cooperators of India in Karnataka. Souharda Federation of more than 600 cooperatives had organized this show in which besides Mr. Brain Lee Branch, President of WOCCU and Mr. Kerry Dwanye Naylor, COO, Local Government Federal Credit Union, North Carolina, US , Satish Marathe, Uday Joshi and several others participated.

The meeting took place at Hotel Parijatha Gate Way Bangalore. It was also attended by Ramesh Vaidya, newly anointed President of Sahakara Bharathi, Maregouda, President of Karnataka Credit Federation, Nagarajshetty President Karnataka State Credit Cooperative Association, Ellangovan Director, RICM, and many other dignitaries, resource persons & cooperators.

Brain Lee Branch said that, there are 75000 credit cooperative unions in 160 countries with a coverage of 260 million peoples in the world. The cooperatives have to work with international standards and with economic stability to achieve the viability and to serve better the member community. He also interacted with many questions raised by the participants of the meeting.

Mr. Kerry Dwanye Naylor, also spoke about importance of the strengthening of credit cooperative movement in the world and the standards to be maintained.

Earlier, B.H Krishna Reddy, President, Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative ltd., welcomed the dignitaries & Mr. Satish Marathe delivered the key note address.

Arun Kumar, MD Karnataka State Cooperative Federation presented a picture of the Karnataka Cooperative movement with special emphasis on the credit movement in the meeting.

Sharanagouda G Patil, MD, Karnataka State Souharda Fedaeral Cooperative Ltd explained the structure of the Souharda Cooperative Movement and how it functions in Karnataka.

Sridhar, Founder & Chairman of the Gnanashale Souharda Credit Souharda presented a brief note on the working of cooperatives and various projects with an aim to enable the Rural Women Empowerment.

Gurunath Janthikar, Director, KSSFCL, Bangalore, gave a vote of thanks.

NAFCUB which was member of WOCCU in the past, withdrew its membership owing to its inability to pay subscription fees.
