A close aide of Uttarakhand Cooperative Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Dan Singh Rawat has been nominated as the Chairman of Administrative board of apex bank-Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank on Tuesday.
Rawat was the Chairman of the outgoing Board, the tenure of which ended in August. The RCS took over the administration thereafter. But the govt has, through an order again reappointed Rawat as the head of Administrative Board. While Opposition has cried foul and wanted the Registrar to oversee the ensuing election process, BJP govt talks of checking NPA as the main reason for Rawat’s appointment.
It is to be noted that the election of the apex bank will be held on 16th February 2019 but meantime Dan Singh Rawat has been nominated as the board Chairman. Four other members of the administrative board include Mahavir Prasad, Ramesh Bahuguna, Devendra Kumar and Mangala Prasad Tripathy.
Talking to this correspondent Rawat said, “Yes I am nominated as the Chairman of the administrative board of Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank. My tenure ended on 11th August this year and the activities of the bank were monitored by the Registrar of the state. From now on, I will oversee the activities of the bank.
“We will focus on reducing NPAs and increasing deposits and loans and advances. We will also work in the interest of members and especially the farmers of the state”, he added.
The newly nominated Rawat has shared the information through social media and wrote, “Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Cooperative Minister Dhan Singh Rawat have nominated me as the Chairman of Administrative board of Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank. I extend my heartfelt thanks to CM and cooperative minister”, he wrote.
On Monday, a meeting was held for congratulating the newly elected Chairman, Vice-Chairman and board members of District Cooperative Banks across the State. Uttrakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and State Cooperative Minister Dhan Singh Rawat graced the occasion among others.
Readers would recall that recently the elections of ten DCCBs were held and all the seats were won by the BJP.
It bears recall that the election process of different cooperative organizations of the state had begun in July. Polls did take place for many coops but due to civic polls in the state the election schedule of DCCBs bank had been extended.
