UP Co-op Land Dev Bank: Shiv Pal may find it tough this time

The election schedule for electing the new managing committee of Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Land Development Bank has been released and it is being reported that Chief of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party and Chairman of the bank Shivpal Singh Yadav may face a challenge in this election.

The final list of voters will be published on 10 February 2020 and the election of Chairman will be held on 3rd April 2020. Shivpal Singh’s term is ending on 6th April 2020.

Chief Election Commissioner PK Mohanty informed that the election of representatives of 323 branches of the bank in the state will be held on 27th February 2020.

Mohanty said that the members of the managing committee will be elected on 1st April 2020. Before this, the provisional display of voter list will be held on March 20 and the final publication on March 24.

It is to be noted that the bank board is occupied by the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party.

In Mulayam Singh era Shiv Pal used to call shots not only in Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Land Development Bank but in almost all the co-op bodies including DCCBs. He was also the Cooperative Minister in Akhilesh cabinet.

His son Aditya Yadav, who is on board of IFFCO and an ICA Board member, also doubles up as the Chairman of PCF-Pradeshik Cooperative Federation. Yadav clan has been virtually monopolizing the cooperative scene of the state.

There are many who believe that Shiv Pal is B team of BJP in the state and that his floating of a new party on the eve of Assembly election was aimed at helping the BJP. Shiv Pal denies this vehemently.

“The moot question is if the Yogi govt will repay the favour done by Shiv Pal to the BJP”, ask his detractors.
