Speaking in a training program organized for UCB staff-members, Satish Marathe, Director RBI underscored the crucial role of Urban Cooperative Banks in the country’s present economic scenario.

Marathe was speaking in a training program on managerial excellence for Presidents and Directors of the Souharda Urban Cooperative banks of Karnataka at Ankit Vista in Karnataka.

The meeting was presided by B H Krishna Reddy President of Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative and attended by many veteran cooperators and bankers including Ramesh Vaidya, President National Sahakar Bharati.

Satish Marathe highlighted issues like capacity building, risk management, technology adaption which are extremely important in a growing digital economy. He said though we may not achieve a cashless society but we can definitely go for a less cash society. It is the need of the hour, he emphasized.

“We have to adopt innovations as well as adapt to them. Urban banks need to compete in fields like simplifying the application forms, processing, documentations, loan disbursement and we should also capitalize on the strong network available as it will be the best cushion”, said Marathe.

The managing director of Karnataka State Souharda Federal Co-operative Sharangouda G Patil welcomed the guests.

Thirty seven delegates from 15 Souharda Cooperative banks attended the program.
