Spiraling crisis: NDCCB employees not ready to listen to management

In the wake of an indefinite strike organized by the employees of the beleaguered Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank (NDCCB) Chairman of the Administrative board, Praveen Wankhede said, “We are not against employees getting their dues but our financial position is not so good”.

“We told employees to wait till 31st March 2019. If they have waited for about four years then why they are not waiting till 31st March”, he asked. The NDCCB has suffered a huge loss amounting to around Rs 200 crore.

It bears recall that for the past three days the employees of the bank are on strike because they have not got their increment and DA since 2015. The strike has spread beyond the NDCCB headquarters at Nagpur city hitting branches in the district as well.

Wankhede further said, “Over Rs 4 crore has been pending with the bank in the account of annual increment and DA of about 350 employees. The bank has 72 branches across Nagpur District. This problem has arisen due to several clarifications in the MoU signed between the

Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank Employees Union and the management for the implementation of wage board on 3rd February 2011”, said Wankhede who has joined as the administrator roughly three months back remarked.

Meanwhile, talking to this correspondent Vijay Shahane, President, Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank Employees Union said, “The union and the bank’s management had a dialogue. As per the agreement, the management had to hike salary. However, to our surprise it had stopped the annual increment since 2015 without any intimation to us. Our only demand is management should release annual increment which is long overdue”.

“The strike has affected 3.5 lakh customers including 60,000 farmers. The situation will be more complicated if the strike continues for a long period. However, no one from the management met the employees of NDCCB who are in agitation mode”, Shahne said.

Media reports say in a setback to Saoner MLA Sunil Kedar, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the lower court to complete ongoing trial into multi-crore Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank (NDCCB) scam within three months.
