Mukund Abhyankar the leading cooperator from Pune who was arrested on Sunday on charges of rash driving got bail on Monday afternoon as predicted in these columns.
Senior members of the Board of the Cosmos Bank were present at the time of his release. The entire team of Cosmos Bank had sprung into action after Abhyankar was arrested Sunday afternoon.
Abhyankar had a run of bad luck Sunday afternoon when his Maruti car hit a 27-year-old woman who died later in the hospital in Pune. Former President of NAFCUB and Group Chairman of Cosmos bank and its subsidiaries Abhyankar does not usually drive but it being Sunday he was driving his car himself.
The accident took place on Bhandarkar Road in Pune. Arundhati Girish Hasabnis, a resident of Narhe was going on her two-wheeler when her vehicle was hit by Mukund Abhyankar’s car from behind.
Police have booked Abhyankar under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (rash driving), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
Police investigation in the matter is continuing. Police sources say that the cctvs of the area would prove handy in understanding the cause of the accident. Abhyankar is 79.
