Satara DCCB moots idea of new Fed for DCCBs; Final call on 26th March

Maharashtra based Satara District Central Cooperative Bank called a meeting in association with several district central cooperative banks of the state in Mumbai on Monday to discuss several challenges before DCCBs.

The main discussion revolved around constituting the National Level Federation of District Central Cooperative Banks (NAFCDOB) on the lines of Nafcub and Nafscob. RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe also participated in the meeting.

The other issues that came up for discussion included role of DCCBs in the emerging co-op scenario-formation of 2 lakh PACS, raising of long-term fund & capital, formation of national level organisations for DCCBs, challenges before DCCBs-Legal, Regulatory, Technology upgradation and others.

The top-notch office bearers of Mumbai, Raigad, Pune and Sindhudurg DCCBs attended the meeting.

Soon after the meeting, talking to the Indian Cooperative, one of the participants said, “The preliminary discussions on several subjects were held during the meeting. One issue that was echoed on this occasion was the formation of a national federation for DCCBs. The final call on the matter would be taken on 26th March 2023”.

“Nafscob and Nafcub are the national level organisations working for state cooperative banks & urban cooperative banks respectively. Likewise, DCCBs don’t have such organisations to put up & get their issues resolved. The formation of the National level federation of DCCBs (NAFCDOB) is the need of the hour to highlight our issues”, said a Managing Director of one of the DCCBs.

Giving weightage to his point of formation of NAFCDOB, he said, “DCCBs are facing problems related to legal, technology, administrative, government related issues and others, at present there is no such organisation that will jointly raise our issues, each DCCB is handling its issues independently”, he underlined.

“But if the same issues would have been raised by one single organisation then these issues would effectively engage the concerned authority”, he asserted.

Besides, it was also decided to hold a National Level Conference of DCCBs at Mumbai in the month of April. “We are planning to invite Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah to inaugurate the conference. In the conference the resolution for constituting the National Federation for DCCBs will also be presented”, said another participant.
