Paradigm shift: Dehradun DCCB new Chairman eyes city residents

Newly elected Chairman of Dehradun District Cooperative Bank Amit Shah is a bundle of confidence as of now. One of the first things he did after winning the election is to ask NABARD to stop step-motherly treatment to co-op banks.

NABARD should extend the limit of commercial loans to be disbursed by District Central Cooperative Banks as they lose out their customers to other banks, said Amit Shah to Indian Cooperative.

“As the agriculture loan is decreasing day by day we would not be able to survive in future, we request NABARD to extend the limit of commercial loans so that co-op banks are able to rope in urban customers living in cities also”, added Shah who had been on the board of Dehradun DCCB since 2008 .

Shah further said, “We will lay emphasis on increasing our bank deposit and disbursing loans at a reasonable rate of interest to our farmers. We are committed to rendering our services in the interest of farmers and members”, he stressed.

But there is huge scope in cities where we can disburse home loans but because of paucity of fund we can’t entertain those seeking loans from us, he added.

Soon after the victory, the newly elected team of Dehradun DCCBs went to meet State Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. The social media was flooded with congratulatory messages from the followers of Amit Shah. The newly elected team had met State Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal last week.

The Dehradun DCCBs board comprises of nearly 16 members out of which 13 are elected and one member is a government nominee besides others. Shah replaces Dr K S Rana. The board has a five year term.

Earlier, one of the members of the committee formed by BJP to oversee the election process of the state, Dan Singh Rawat informed, “BJP has won all the seats of six DCCBs of Garhwal Mandal of Uttarakhand”.

“While Vikram Singh Rawat has been elected the Chairman of Uttarkashi DCCBs, Subash Ramola was elected as the Chairman of Tehri DCCBs. Gajendra Singh Rawat and Narender Singh Rawat have been elected as the Chairman of Chamoli and Pauri DCCBs respectively”, Rawat informed.

Rawat further said, “Pradeep Chaudhary has been elected as the Chairman of Haridwar DCCBs and Amit Shah has been elected Chairman of Dehradun DCCBs”.

Readers would recall that Garhwal Mandal went to polls to elect Directors on 4th December. The elections for the Chairman and Vice-Chairman were held on 5th December.

Dehradun District Cooperative Bank has a business mix of around Rs 850 crore and has 23 branches in different cities of Dehradun. Around 39 PACCs are the members of the bank.
