NAFSCOB holds AGM, elects two Vice-Presidents

The AGM of National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) which was organized last week in an upscale hotel in Mumbai elected two new Vice-Presidents taking the number of VPs once again to five.

While Ramesh Chaubey, Chairman of Bihar State Co-op Bank was elected from the north east, Mr Pokhriyal was the second cooperator to have been elected as the VP. ”I was elected unanimously from five states that included Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam and Andaman & Nicobar”, said Chaubey on the phone to Indian Cooperative.

Several nominations had been filed for the two posts through e-mails but a consensus emerged when cooperators assembled for the AGM in Kohinoor Continental in Mumbai last week. “Senior cooperators including Chandra Pal Singh Yadav and Bijender Singh played an important role in avoiding the casting of votes and worked on a successful consensus formula”, said Chaubey who was jubilant in the wake of coming back as the Vice-Chairman after a gap of two and a half years.

Chaubey would continue for the next five years in a NAFSCOB Board comprising of 22 Directors. The AGM has about 32 members, though the NAFSCOB website remains un-updated with the list of Executive Committee members that existed on 19/09/2016. “It underlines the working of its MD B Subramanyam who is said to have a penchant for foreign tours and big-ticket dinners”, rued a member on condition of anonymity.

Established in 1964 NAFSCOB is the apex body of co-operative banks. While Gujarat strongman Dileep Sanghani is its Chairman, Bhima Subramaniyam who refuses to retire, continues to be its Managing Director. Concerned with the affairs of State and Central Cooperative Banks NAFSCOB aims to promote and protect the interests of the member banks in all spheres of their activities.

Ramesh Chaubey felt that his recent efforts to get a sum of Rs 13.67 crore waived off by RBI was appreciated by members who thought it fit to support me. Chaubey also did not forget to mention the role played by the state union minister Santosh Gangwar for his intervention in resolving the issue with RBI.

The AGM also witnessed an award-giving ceremony in which the Telangana State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd (TSCAB) bagged first prize in the category of ‘overall best performance’ among 32 SCBs in the country. Konduru Ravinder Rao, Chairman and Dr. Nethi Muralidhar, Managing Director, received the award on behalf of TSCAB.

Similarly, District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB), Karimnagar is third prize winner for ‘overall best performance’ among 371 DCCBs and PACS. Tadla Rampoor (affiliated to DCCB Nizamabad) has been adjudged as second prize winner for ‘Subhash Yadav Award for the best performing PACS’ from among 93,367 PACS in the country.”
