Governance, Tech Focus mark High-Impact UCB Meet in Hyderabad

In a decisive push toward professional excellence and regulatory strength, the Telangana State Cooperative Urban Banks Federation, in collaboration with NAFCUB, successfully organised a high-level Training Programme cum Workshop for Chairmen, Directors, CEOs and senior functionaries of Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) at Hotel Royalton in Hyderabad.

The one-day event brought together 93 senior leaders of the sector under the stewardship of Federation President Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy, Working President G. Madana Gopala Swamy, Vice-President Pramod Kumar Kedia, and CEO R. Krishna Murthy. The workshop served as a strategic platform to align Telangana’s UCBs with evolving regulatory expectations and modern banking standards.

Chief Guest Chinmoy Kumar, Regional Director of the Reserve Bank of India, lauded Telangana UCBs for their commendable performance, noting that no bank in the state is currently under the supervisory action framework. However, he cautioned against complacency, urging institutions to rise to higher standards of professionalism, governance, and operational efficiency.

Structuring his address around four pillars, Governance, Assurance Functions, Technology, and Customer Service, he emphasized that strong governance remains the “single solution” to most institutional challenges.

He called for impartial decision-making, robust audit systems, strict compliance with RBI Master Directions, and strengthened IT governance with secure Core Banking Solutions and cyber security frameworks. Highlighting RBI’s Financial Literacy Week 2026 theme, “KYC – Your First Step to Stable Banking,” he stressed customer trust as the cornerstone of sustainable growth.

DGM Prabhuti Samal (Department of Supervision, RBI Hyderabad) reaffirmed RBI’s continued support for capacity building. Abhishek Kumar (DGM & Faculty Member, College of Agricultural Banking, RBI Pune) delivered an insightful session on corporate governance aligned with the RBI Governance Directions issued on November 28, 2025, advocating a “hands-off, eyes-on” Board approach.

Advisor Subhash Gupta highlighted the Government of India’s commitment, through the Ministry of Cooperation, to strengthening UCBs via structured training initiatives, while Program Coordinator Anil Chauhan commended the Federation’s seamless execution.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice-President Pramod Kedia, marking the event as a milestone in steering Telangana’s UCBs toward a professionally governed, technologically secure, and customer-centric future.
