Goa Chief minister recently said in the state assembly that he would order a judicial probe into irregularities in the Goa State Cooperative Bank. He said this amid allegations of “deep-rooted corruption” being leveled by the opposition in the house, reports Times of India.

The apex financing agency in the cooperative sector has been dogged by controversy in recent years for its alleged illegalities. An independent member of the house had alleged that the registrar of cooperative societies and chairman of the bank sold the apex bank’s properties for a song.

Citing the sale of property in Baiguinim, the independent member said the bank valuer in 1995, had estimated the value of 63,000 sq m at 8.19 crore but 11 years later the bank sold it for 1.36 crore.

Venturist Media reports repeating the chief minister’s stand and expressing his agreement with members’ views on the sorry state of the affairs of the bank, minister of cooperation assured the house that the bank’s serious irregularities would be thoroughly inquired into and those found guilty would be punished.
