Determined to rid co-ops of graft: AAP Minister

We have set up a ‘Cooperative Committee’ comprising cooperative leaders and mandating them to give suggestions about how to transform the cooperative sector in the country’s capital. We will amend the cooperative Act of Delhi in the light of their suggestions, said Cooperative Minister of Delhi Rajendra Pal Gautam.

Gautam said this on sidelines of Cooperative Award ceremony organized by Delhi State Cooperative Union in Hindi Bhawan in the Capital.

“I have received scores of complaints about graft being indulged in by people working in the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Society. I warn strict action against all those indulging in wrongdoings”, Gautam said.

The event was a little marred by the lack of space in the hall as scores of cooperators were denied seats.

Gautam said because of bad elements gaining prominence in housing Cooperatives, Thrift and Credit Society Cooperatives as well as in cooperative banks, the image of the sector has taken a hit.

On the occasion, Cooperative Minister felicitated cooperators and bestowed awards on 10 Cooperatives and 14 Cooperators for their remarkable contributions to the cooperative sector.

Praising the efforts of cooperatives in Delhi, Gautam said “There are thousands of Group Housing Societies in the Capital through which dreams of people’ getting their own houses and getting loans on negligible interest are being fulfilled” he added.

The Delhi-NCR leading Cooperative Bank Kangra Cooperative Bank received Best Cooperative Bank Award. The award was received by its Chairman Laxmi Dass. Jamia Cooperative Bank Chairman M.Q.H.Beg was bestowed with Best Cooperator Award on the occasion.

Ramagharia Cooperative Bank and Janata Cooperative Bank also bagged an award each. Vice-Chairman Ajit Singh Sehra received the award on behalf of Ramagharia.
