Bijender Singh, the veteran cooperator romped home as Chairman in the recently concluded elections of Delhi State Cooperative Bank.  Along with him, Chaudhary Sukhvir Singh was unanimously elected Vice-Chairman of the apex state cooperative bank.

The election which saw more consensus than competition elected 11 Directors to the Board. All former Directors with the sole exception of R M Bhardwaj were re-elected. Mr Bhardwaj is said to have opted out of the race owing to his ill-health.

The only new face is that of P M Sharma who belongs to a thrift and credit society of the state. Even his election went off smoothly and he was elected unopposed.

It was indeed a matter of somewhat satisfaction for Mr Bijender Singh who had lost election to city legislature in the recently concluded Assembly elections. He represented Nagloi constituency from the Congress Party.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Bijender Singh said “Elections went off peacefully and the entire board was selected unopposed”.

Mr Singh incidentally is also the Chairman of NAFSCOB and that of NAFED. His days with Nafed are filled with tension with the cooperative behemoth on the verge of selling off its premises across India to pay off bank’s debt.

The election to Delhi State Cooperative Bank was scheduled for August but once the process started, Registrar of cooperatives appointed a Returning Officer K P Suhag in April only and the process was completed before the month-end.
