Corruption in co-op societies on rise

cash bundleA Cooperative bank manager was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs one lakh in Sangrur district, an official spokesman of Punjab Vigilance Bureau said.

Surinder Garg, posted as manager at Primary Cooperative Agriculture Development Bank was nabbed by a team of vigilance bureau on the complaint of Amarjit Singh of village Sikander Pura, he said.

There have been several cases of corruption in the lower level cooperatives also in recent days. In Ajmer Urban Co-op Bank, the Rajasthan High Court had summoned the concerned RBI officer with the relevant records.

Similarly in the multi-crore loan scam at the Shimoga District Central CooperativeBank(SDCCB), the government on Monday appointed Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal as the administrative officer of the bank.
