The Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Bank (Apcob) is introducing advanced ATMs in all mandal centres of the state for the convenience of illiterate account holders. The new ATMs can be operated with the help of fingerprints and photographs of the account holder.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, the Apcob chairman, Mr Y. Vijendra Reddy, said the Apcob has started the pilot project in three districts of Nizamabad in Telangana, Chittoor in Rayalaseema and Krishna in coastal Andhra and introduced the first ATM in Nizamabad district on Saturday.

It will be introduced in Krishna and Chittoor districts very soon on an experimental basis.

He said the illiterates are not able to utilise the existing ATMs in the state. He said the ATMs will show the images of the card-holder and operation can be made with pin codes of the areas.

He said the Apcob has computerised 1,500 cooperative societies against the total of 2,571 in the state. The Apcob has 565 branches in 22 districts of the state. He said efforts were on to computerise the remaining societies.
