Arrested Abhyankar may get bail by afternoon

The famed cooperator from Pune Mukund Abhyankar had a run of bad luck Sunday afternoon when his Maruti car hit a 27-year-old woman who died later in the hospital in Pune. Police has arrested Abhyankar and is investigating the case.

Former President of NAFCUB and Group Chairman of Cosmos bank and its subsidiaries Abhyankar does not usually drive but it being Sunday he was driving his car himself that resulted in a fatal accident. Cosmos Bank sources said drivers of the UCB are usually on leave on Sundays.

The accident took place on Bhandarkar Road in Pune. Arundhati Girish Hasabnis, a resident of Narhe was going on her two-wheeler when her vehicle was hit by Mukund Abhyankar’s car from behind.

Police have booked Abhyankar under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (rash driving), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), reports PTI.

According to police Abhyankar continued to drive further, but was stopped by a policeman and people on the road. Police said it would go through the CCTV cameras installed in the area to verify the facts of the case.

Meanwhile, the senior members of the Board of the Cosmos Bank have sprung into action working out a plan to get bail for Abhyankar. “ I am sure he would come out of the police custody by 3 pm today”, said one of the Directors to Indian Cooperative Monday morning.
