photoA TAFCUB-Sikkim meeting took place on last Monday  at Gangtok in which Dr Mukund Abhyankar , President of the apex body of Urban Cooperative Banks represented NAFCUB.

There is only one UCB in the entire state of Sikkim which is being run professionally and the good news is it is CBS enabled. Regional Director RBI Kolkata Shri R.N.Kar chaired the meeting while Additional Registrar Co-op Societies of Sikkim Shri R.K.Gautam was also present.

Dr Abhyankar appealed to RBI as there are only 17 UCBs in North eastern districts of India, special dispensation must be provided by the regulator as well as by Govt through NABARD.

After this meeting Dr.Abhyankar met Dr Shriniwas Patil, the Governor of Sikkim and appealed him to extend all possible support to the lone UCB in his state -The Citizen Urban Co-operative Bank having 5 branches in the state.

Shri Patil being an ex-IAS officer from Maharashtra and being Director of Sugars there assured his full support to the entire co-operative movement of Sikkim.

Dr ML Abhyankar’s visit to Gangtok as also his participation in the TAFCUB meeting on the 13th October 2014 was a blessing for Citizens’Urban Cooperative Bank,Gangtok. We could take advantage of his vast domain knowledge on the operation of Urban Cooperative Banks, and also solve a number of critical issues concerning our Bank.We have further been assured of his help and advice on a few more pending issues. We look forward UCBs can make substantial progress in various fields during his tenure as the President of NAFCUB, New Delhi.
