4 branches in 2 months! Model Co-op Bank wows customers

Maharashtra based Model Co-operative Bank has wowed people by opening four branches of the fast-growing UCB in less than 2 months in different parts of the state. Currently on branch opening spree Model Co-op Bank opened its 24th Branch at Goregaon (W) on 1st May 2019.

The Goregaon (W) Branch was inaugurated by Mr. Royston Braganza, Chief Executive Officer, Grameen Capital India Ltd. and blessed by Rev. Dr. Fr. Francis Carvalho, Parish Priest, Our Lady of Rosary Church, Goregaon (W) and Manager & Trustee, St. Thomas Academy, Goregaon (W).

The Chairman of the Bank, Albert W. D’Souza in his welcome address stated that at present the UCB has 23 branches and this one at Goregaon (W) is the 24th. The 25th branch will be inaugurated on 5th May 2019 at Sakinaka, he informed. D’Souza also recalled that the 22nd branch at Vikhroli and 23rd branch at Panvel were inaugurated in March this year. Chairman further stated that ‘Small is Effective’ and so the staff of the Bank will be able to provide good and personal service to the customers.

He also stated that the Institution has completed 103 years of existence as an Institution on 26.04.2019 and the Bank has crossed Deposits of Rs.1000 crores as on 01.03.2019. The Chairman stated that with Deposits of Rs.1030 crores and advances of Rs.570 crores the Bank has achieved total business of about Rs.1600 crores and the Bank is on the threshold of achieving Scheduled Bank Status.  The Chairman thanked the customers for their invaluable support and trust.

The Chairman also stated that the Bank is honoured to be recognized as the top 3 Financially Sound & Well Managed Co-operative Banks in Mumbai by ‘The Brihan Mumbai Nagari Sahakari Banks Association Ltd., Mumbai in the category of Deposits above Rs.300 crores to Rs.1500 crores for the year 2013-14 and 2014 – 15 and 1st Prize for Best Bank among  Co-operative Banks in Mumbai Region in the category of Deposits above Rs.500 crores awarded by the Maharashtra State Co-operative Banks Association Ltd., Mumbai for the year 2014-15 and the Brihan Mumbai Nagari Sahakari Banks Association Ltd. for the year 2015-16.   The Brihan Mumbai Nagari Sahakari Banks Association Ltd., also awarded the Bank 2nd Prize in the category of Deposits above Rs.500 crores for the F.Y.2016-17.

The Chairman concluded stating that the motto of the Bank is ‘Service with a Smile’, and our young, dynamic and enthusiastic staff at Goregaon led by the Manager Raina Fernandes are here to serve the customers with a smile.

The founder Chairman, John D’Silva stated that opening of the 24th Branch is a great achievement for Model Co-op. Bank Ltd.  The Bank aims for Skill Development and help young people to become Entrepreneurs.  He further stated that we have opened a Branch at Goregaon at the request of the people, and urged the citizens of the area to come forward and avail of the various facilities and services provided by the Bank.

Guardian Director, Thomas Lobo stated that ‘Vision without Execution is just Hallucination’, and to accomplish great things in life, one must dream as well as act.  He stated that the Goregaon Branch of Model Co-op. Bank Ltd. is being established in the Golden Jubilee Year of ‘Our Lady of Rosary Church, Goregaon (W)’.

Rev. Dr. Fr. Francis Carvalho, Parish Priest, Our Lady of Rosary Church, Goregaon (W) and Manager & Trustee of St. Thomas Academy, in his address, encouraged the gathering to patronize the Bank, and wished the Bank success.

The Chief Guest, Royston Braganza, Chief Executive Officer, Grameen Capital India Ltd., congratulated the Bank for having opened its 24th Branch on the 1st of May, which is dedicated to Mother Mary.  He stated that ‘MODEL’ means ‘Making Smiles & Counting Blessings’, Opportunity, Data, Entrepreneurship to flourish and Leave no one behind.  He concluded stating that we should leave no one behind as problems arise due to exclusion.  Exclusion only brings problems and Inclusion brings Solutions.

Sr. Romana Fernandes, Principal, St. Thomas Academy, requested the parents of the school children to patronize the Bank and avail the facilities.

A large number of customers, shareholders, well-wishers and Bank Officials were present on the occasion. Directors Vincent Mathias, Paul Nazareth, Pius Vas, Sanjay Shinde, A. C. Lobo, Benedicta Rebello and Marita D’Mello graced the occasion.

William L D’Souza, GM & CEO and Naresh Thakur, Assistant General Manager were also present. Edward Rasquinha, Manager compered the programme. The Dignitaries were felicitated with floral tributes. Branch Manager Raina Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. The function concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
