US Ambassador calls on Union Agriculture Minister

The newly appointed US Ambassador, Mr. Richard Verma who is of Indian heritage called on Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh. Both held discussions on issues of mutual interest and cooperation including the possibility of the two countries working together to ensure World Food Security.

The cooperation agreement signed in 2010 in the agriculture & allied sectors between the two countries also came up prominently in their discussions.

It was agreed to give renewed focus on cooperation in agriculture and initiate immediate steps for renewing the MoU signed in 2010 with inclusion of new areas in the light of changing requirements and circumstances. It was also decided to amicably resolve sanitary and phytosanitary issues for enhanced bilateral trade.

US Ambassador put on record his appreciation of the work done by government of India & USAID for the Agriculture Food Security Programme. Agriculture Minister expressed interest in the technology used by USA for weather forecasting for improving preparedness as well as redressal of problems caused by natural calamities.
