Unnati Mela 2018: Modi to address farmers

With an aim to create awareness about the latest technological developments in the field of agriculture and farming, the Krishi Unnati Mela 2018 is going to be kicked off soon, informed Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh addressing media men in Delhi on Wednesday.

The three-day Annual Krishi Unnati Mela is being organised between March 16 and March 18, 2018 at Mela ground, Pusa in New Delhi. Lakhs of farmers are expected to attend the mela, Singh said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address farmers, agricultural scientists and other participants on 17th March. Modi will also inaugurate the Jaivik Kheti portal and lay the foundation stone of 25 KVKs.

Prime Minister will also confer the Krishi Karman Award & Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Vigyan Protsahan Puraskar on the occasion.

Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), State Agriculture Universities (SAUs), state agriculture/horticulture departments, entrepreneurs, private agencies involved in agriculture will also participate in the mela.

Another important feature of this mela is receiving feedback from the agricultural community, which helps in designing and shaping the future research strategy. This mela is organized every year with a specific theme on a priority area of agricultural research and technology transfer.

 Govt release says that there are going to be more than 800 stalls, display of latest Agriculture & allied sector technologies, live demonstrations on micro- Irrigation, waste water utilization, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries etc. There would also be seminars and conferences on the agricultural theme.

The Krishi Vigyan Mela (Agriculture Science Fair) was initiated in 1972 and continues to be a highly important annual event of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

There would also be Theme Pavilion on doubling farmers’ income by 2022. Pavilion for Jaivik Maha Kumbh would focus on organic farming while Pavilion for inputs would focus on seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides supplying agencies.
