Singh inaugurates Rabi Conference in Delhi

The Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh inaugurated a two-day National Rabi Conference in New Delhi on Thursday and said the conference will provide a platform for result-oriented discussions and sharing of experiences and skills to prepare for the forthcoming rabi season.

Singh said the Conference will provide opportunity to fix crop wise targets, to put in place a robust arrangement of supplies to different states and to introduce new technologies and new practices in the agriculture sector.

Crediting Modi govt for allocating Rs.35,984 Crore to the agriculture Sector he vowed to double the farmers’ income by 2022. This would be possible only with the cooperation of the State Governments, he underlined.

Calling upon the officers and scientists Singh lamented in India, the average yield of all the major crops is far less than the world yield average and there is a need to pay attention on this front.

Efforts should be made to conserve rainwater in rabi season/hot weather in areas that have received more or normal rainfall and the states should work out an action plan to grow rabi pulses and oil seeds in areas which are irrigated by conserved rainwater, Singh underlined.

Besides his junior colleagues Purshottam Rupala and Sudarshan Bhagat, officers from all the states of the country are participating in the conference.  The conference will end on 16th September 2016.
