Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh is organizing a state level cooperative conference in Motihari in Bihar for three days beginning Friday. Cooperators from across the state are expected to participate in the function, said one of the organizers.
The three day function will have co-op conferences, co-op exhibitions, nukkad natak based on the theme of co-operative principles and agricultural fair. NCDC and apex co-op body NCUI are actively associated with the function.
“The conference would be held on Friday in the afternoon in which the Minister would address his constituents. Though titled as a state level event, it will actually be an event with maximum participation from the Champaran district- Minister’s constituency”, explained a local cooperative leader and one of the organizers.
The three day event will have its last two days dedicated to Krishi mela, nukkad natak and other related events. More than 15 cooperative stalls would also be installed on the occasion, said one of the organizers
Readers would recall that Motihari was in news only yesterday when Prime Minister kicked off Satyagraha to Swachhagraha. Narendra Modi was here to attend the event to mark 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha.
Meanwhile, reports trickling in from the region do not speak high about the performance of the Union Minister, as reported earlier in these columns. People are not happy over Minister’s failure to revive the sick sugar mills which used to be the backbone of local economy in the past.
This cooperative event is an attempt to assuage the locals, said an observer. “Most of the PACS chairmen numbering about 400 all of them drawn from the Champaran region alone will participate in the conference. As cooperators are also voters, it is a Minister’s attempt to woo them ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections”, he stressed.
