Ahulwalia takes charge in Singh’s presence

Union Agriculture and Farmer welfare minister Radha Mohan Singh felicitated the newly appointed Minister of State for Agriculture & farmers’ welfare S S Ahluwalia on Wednesday.

Singh shared photographs on face book offering a bouquet to the newly appointed minister. He wrote “I extend my warm welcome to S.S.Ahulwalai to the Ministry of Agriculture and convey my best wishes to him”.

Responding to Singh Ahluwalia wrote on twitter “took charge as Minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare in the presence of Radha Mohan Singh”.

Speaking on the occasion, the newly sworn-in Minister said that to accelerate the development of Agriculture sector and reaching out to the farmers who are on the last ladder will be the focus.

It is worth repeating that Ahluwalia had worked as the Union Minister of State for urban affairs, employment, and parliamentary affairs in the Narsimha Rao Govt. in the mid 90s.

Mr Ahluwalia had his schooling at St. Joseph School, Asansol, and higher education at Burdwan and Calcutta Universities.

The Minister represents Darjeeling (West Bengal) Parliamentary constituency in Lok Sabha. Ahluwalia was a Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha representing Bihar and Jharkhand in 1986-1992, 1992-1998, 2000-2006 and 2006-2012. Ahluwalia was Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from June 2010 to May 2012.

Ahluwalia was born on 4th July, 1951 and is a Law Graduate. Ahluwalia has been Member of various Parliamentary Committees.  Ahluwalia has held various portfolios in the past including Minister of State for Urban Affairs and Employment (Department of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation) and Parliamentary Affairs.
