The Ministry of Cooperation has highlighted the progress of the nationwide computerisation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), describing it as a major step towards digitally transforming India’s rural banking and credit ecosystem.
In a social media post, the Ministry said the initiative, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, has an approved outlay of Rs 2,925.39 crore.
The programme aims to replace manual record-keeping with a transparent, efficient and integrated digital system across PACS, improving governance and service delivery.
The Ministry said the computerisation drive is strengthening grassroots cooperatives by enhancing operational efficiency, transparency and accessibility of financial services for rural communities.
The initiative forms a key pillar of the government’s broader agenda to modernise the cooperative sector and promote inclusive rural development through technology-driven reforms.
