IFFCO Director and Maharashtra Legislative Council member Vivek Kolhe has urged the Maharashtra government to grant procurement preference to fishery cooperative societies established under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
Kolhe met Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane at the Vidhan Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking that fishery cooperatives formed under PMMSY be given the same first priority in government procurement as state-run hatcheries.
He said extending such preference would strengthen cooperative institutions engaged in fisheries, improve their financial sustainability, and encourage greater participation of fishermen in the cooperative sector.
The representation highlights the need to provide equal opportunities to cooperative societies in the fisheries sector and create a level playing field with government hatcheries.
