The Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank Ltd. has become the first cooperative bank in the country to be authorised by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to provide Aadhaar enrolment and update services.

The service was formally launched on Wednesday by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak at a function held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.

Initially, Aadhaar enrolment, corrections and updates will be available at the bank’s branches. In the second phase, the facility will be extended to Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) across the state.

UIDAI Regional Office Deputy Director General Prashant Kumar Singh said around 15,000 Aadhaar machines are currently operational in Uttar Pradesh, processing nearly 90,000 enrolments and updates daily. He said the addition of cooperative bank branches would improve access to Aadhaar services, particularly for people living in rural areas.

Singh also urged parents to complete the mandatory biometric update for children after they attain the ages of five and fifteen.
