Mizoram Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata attended the 37th Annual General Assembly of the Mizoram State Cooperative Union (MSCU) held at Vanapa Hall and highlighted the vital role of cooperatives in the state’s economic development.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said cooperative societies have been instrumental in transforming Mizoram and strengthening the state’s economy.

He noted that the government is committed to promoting the cooperative sector and has already submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Cooperation under the Mizoram Cooperative Joint Mission to establish at least 1,000 viable cooperative societies across the state. The initiative aims to create sustainable business opportunities and strengthen grassroots economic activity.

Vanlalruata expressed hope that each cooperative society would eventually achieve an annual turnover of at least Rs 1 crore.

Established in 1975, MSCU is the oldest state-level cooperative society in Mizoram and plays a key role in cooperative education, training and awareness-building throughout the state.
