The Board of Directors of Dudhsagar Dairy, led by chairman Ashok Chaudhary, held a meeting to review the dairy’s ongoing activities and discuss future development plans. Ashok Chaudhary also serves as the chairman of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets its dairy products under the Amul brand.
During the meeting, the board took a major decision in the interest of milk producers and livestock farmers by approving an increase of Rs 25 per kg fat in milk procurement prices with effect from June 1. Following the revision, the procurement price has been increased to Rs 855 per kg fat.
In another significant relief for dairy farmers, Dudhsagar Dairy also decided to provide additional payments linked to SNF (Solids-Not-Fat) content along with fat-based payments. The move is expected to ensure better returns and fair compensation for milk producers associated with the cooperative.
Speaking to Indian Cooperative, Dudhsagar Dairy chairman Ashok Chaudhary said the decision would benefit more than five lakh farmers associated with the dairy. He said the additional financial burden on the dairy would be around Rs 10 crore per month and nearly Rs 125 crore annually, but the cooperative remained committed to supporting dairy farmers amid rising input costs.
Chaudhary further stated that Dudhsagar Dairy had implemented one of the highest increases in milk procurement prices among cooperative milk unions in Gujarat, reaffirming its commitment towards the prosperity, development and financial empowerment of milk producers and rural livestock farmers.
The dairy said the decision was aimed at strengthening the economic condition of livestock farmers and enhancing their income while ensuring long-term sustainability of the cooperative dairy sector.
