In a key step towards reforming the cooperative sector, the Maharashtra government’s high-level committee on amendments to the state cooperative law held its first meeting at the Office of the Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar in Pune.

The meeting was chaired by Deepak Taware, who led detailed deliberations on updating the legal framework in line with evolving policies and sectoral needs.

The meeting was attended by senior committee members including Vidyadhar Anaskar, Vivek Jugade, Sanjay Khatal, Suhas Patwardhan and Sitaram Rane, along with senior officials from sugar, textiles, dairy, and marketing departments, as well as retired cooperation experts.

During the meeting, members shared their experiences and presented suggestions for comprehensive legal reforms. A consensus emerged on the need to make the cooperative law more robust, transparent, and adaptable to current challenges.

The committee resolved to undertake time-bound reforms aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s cooperative ecosystem.
