As many as 19 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in Andhra Pradesh have become defunct, the government informed Parliament. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Amit Shah said liquidation orders have been issued for 15 PACS, with liquidators appointed. Of these, two have been recommended for revival, while action on four PACS is pending due to a court case.

The Centre has also accelerated reforms through the computerisation of PACS. Launched in 2022, the project initially covered 63,000 societies and has now been expanded to 79,630 PACS with an outlay of Rs 2,925.39 crore.

In Andhra Pradesh, 2,021 out of 2,037 sanctioned PACS have already been onboarded onto ERP-based common software, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and integration with cooperative banking systems.
