Kerala Co-op Scam row; Congress targets CPM

A strongly worded post by the official handle of Indian National Congress in Kerala has intensified the political row over alleged irregularities in the state’s cooperative sector, targeting the ruling Left government.

The tweet highlighted the distress of investors linked to the Brahmagiri Development Society (BDS) in Sulthan Bathery, where allegations of financial mismanagement and ??????? deposit collection have surfaced.

Citing the case of an investor who reportedly threatened self-harm after failing to recover his savings, the Congress termed the situation a “human tragedy” unfolding within cooperative institutions.

According to the party, over 600 depositors are struggling to recover funds allegedly exceeding Rs 100 crore, raising serious concerns about oversight and governance in cooperative bodies. It also pointed to whistleblower claims of fund diversion and regulatory violations.

The Congress accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led government of failing to act despite court interventions, and said the crisis reflects deeper structural issues in the cooperative sector, now emerging as a major political flashpoint in the state.
