The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) and Rural Co-operative Banks (RCBs) to disclose details of their deposit insurance premium payments to the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) in their annual financial statements.

In separate amendment directions issued on Monday, the RBI revised the Financial Statements: Presentation and Disclosures Directions for both UCBs and RCBs to strengthen transparency in the cooperative banking sector.

Under the revised framework, cooperative banks must now clearly disclose in their annual reports whether the deposit insurance premium payable to DICGC was paid within the prescribed timelines. If the payment was delayed, banks will also have to report any arrears or pending premium payments in their financial statements.

The move follows the implementation of the Risk Based Premium (RBP) Framework introduced earlier by DICGC, which links deposit insurance premiums to the risk profile of banks.

According to the RBI, the amendments aim to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the reporting of deposit insurance obligations, giving depositors and stakeholders better visibility into the compliance status of cooperative banks.

The new disclosure norms will come into effect from April 1, 2026.
