India’s cooperative sector is steadily expanding its global presence through the initiatives of National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL).
Highlighting this progress, the official account of the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry noted that since its inception, NCEL has facilitated exports of 54 cooperative products to 29 countries, with the total export value reaching Rs 5,731 crore.
The initiative aims to strengthen international market access for products manufactured by cooperatives across India. NCEL has been working on multiple fronts, including building market linkages, signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), establishing sector-focused export divisions, and organising exhibitions to showcase cooperative products globally.
In addition, digital learning and capacity-building programmes are being conducted to equip cooperatives with the knowledge required to compete in international markets. The move is expected to further empower cooperative institutions and farmers by connecting them with global trade opportunities.
