ANGKASA backs stronger ICA-AP Role in Asia-Pacific

Malaysia’s National Co-operative Movement, ANGKASA, has expressed support for strengthening the role of the International Cooperative Alliance-Asia and Pacific (ICA-AP) in advancing cooperative development across the region, media reports say.

ANGKASA President Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah said the proposal was discussed during an ICA-AP meeting held in Bangkok and chaired by ICA-AP President Dr Chandrapal Singh Yadav. The discussions focused on enhancing the board’s role in regional committees and policy decision-making.

Abdul Fattah noted that expanding membership outreach and creating smaller regional clusters could help improve participation in cooperative programmes. He said stronger regional cooperation would open business opportunities and reinforce cooperatives as a people-centred economic model.

ANGKASA also plans to promote tourism cooperatives and expand marketing of cooperative products as part of preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026.
