India’s sugar production has climbed to 246.30 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in the ongoing crushing season, up from 220.05 LMT last year, according to data released by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd. (NFCSF).
Out of 534 sugar mills across the country, 288 remain operational while 248 have concluded their crushing operations. Total sugarcane crushed so far stands at 2,608.96 lakh tonnes. Notably, the average sugar recovery rate has improved to 9.44%, compared to 9.22% in the previous season, reflecting enhanced operational efficiency.
State-wise, Maharashtra leads with 95.20 LMT, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 74.10 LMT and Karnataka at 44.05 LMT.
The steady rise in output and recovery underscores the sustained efforts of cooperative sugar mills, contributing not only to stronger production figures but also to improved farmer incomes and sectoral stability.
